FREC-3

The Soteria Group’s First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC 3) course is a nationally recognised qualification, purpose-adapted to the operational environments in which your teams actually work.

While fully aligned with Qualsafe Awards and regulated by Ofqual, this course is not delivered as a generic, classroom-only programme. Instead, FREC 3 is contextualised to your risk profile, operating environment, and rescue capability.

Environment-Specific Delivery

The Soteria Group adapts FREC 3 to reflect real operational contexts, including but not limited to:

  • Rope rescue and working at height

  • Water and swiftwater environments

  • Confined space and industrial settings

  • Remote, austere, or delayed-response locations

Medical skills are taught and practised within these environments, ensuring casualty care integrates seamlessly with technical rescue, access, packaging, and evacuation considerations.

What the Course Covers

Participants are trained in systematic patient assessment, management of airway and breathing emergencies, catastrophic and non-catastrophic haemorrhage control, shock management, medical emergencies, trauma care, and structured handover to statutory services.

Clinical decision-making is framed by scene safety, environmental hazards, and rescue constraints, reflecting the reality of incidents where medical care cannot be separated from access or extrication.

Who It’s For

FREC 3 is suitable for rescue teams, event and venue medics, security personnel, outdoor and expedition staff, utilities and industrial responders, and others with a duty of care in complex or non-clinical environments.

The Soteria Group Approach

Delivered by instructors with extensive experience in rescue operations and austere pre-hospital medicine, training is practical, scenario-led, and deliberately challenging. Scenarios include environmental stressors, limited equipment, communication challenges, and team-based problem solving.

Human factors, workload, and decision-making under pressure are embedded throughout, ensuring competence that stands up when conditions are poor and consequences are high.

Qualification & Progression

On successful completion, learners receive a FREC Level 3 qualification, typically valid for three years. The course provides a strong foundation for progression into higher-risk and specialist pathways, including FREC 4, rope rescue medical support, water rescue medical response, TECC, and other advanced courses.

This is FREC 3 delivered as an operational tool, not a tick-box certificate, ensuring your teams are prepared to provide care where access is difficult, environments are hostile, and outcomes depend on integrated rescue and medical performance.
