PHTLS

The Soteria Group’s Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course is an internationally recognised trauma programme designed to prepare responders to manage seriously injured patients in high-risk, complex, and resource-limited pre-hospital environments.

Delivered in accordance with NAEMT standards and endorsed by the American College of Surgeons, this course is adapted by The Soteria Group to reflect the environments, hazards, and operational realities faced by modern responders.

PHTLS focuses on delivering the right care, at the right time, in the right order, prioritising rapid assessment, early life-saving interventions, and sound clinical decision-making when conditions are far from ideal.

Environment-Adapted Trauma Care

Unlike generic delivery models, PHTLS with The Soteria Group is tailored to your operational context, including:

  • Rope and vertical rescue environments

  • Water and flood response operations

  • Confined space and industrial incidents

  • Remote, austere, and delayed-evacuation settings

Trauma care is taught in direct consideration of access limitations, prolonged extrication, environmental exposure, casualty packaging, and evacuation constraints, ensuring clinical interventions support operational objectives.

Clinical Framework

Participants are trained using the globally recognised PHTLS assessment model, with strong emphasis on catastrophic haemorrhage control, airway and breathing management, circulation and shock management, neurological assessment, hypothermia prevention, and rapid trauma decision-making.

Care is delivered through a systematic, evidence-based approach that reduces on-scene time while maximising patient outcomes, even when definitive care is delayed.

Who It’s For

PHTLS is suitable for paramedics, EMTs, pre-hospital clinicians, rescue team medics, and other responders responsible for managing traumatic injury in unpredictable and high-consequence environments.

The Soteria Group Training Model

Delivered by instructors with extensive operational experience in trauma care, rescue operations, and austere medicine, the course is practical, scenario-led, and deliberately challenging. Scenarios incorporate environmental stressors, time pressure, limited resources, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Human factors, communication under stress, leadership, and team integration are embedded throughout to ensure performance holds under pressure.

Certification & Progression

PHTLS certification is typically valid for four years and is internationally recognised across civilian, rescue, and tactical medical communities. The course provides a strong foundation for progression into advanced trauma and specialist pathways, including TECC, TCCC, and higher-level rescue medical roles.

This is PHTLS delivered as an operational trauma system, adapted to your environment, aligned to your risk profile, and focused on outcomes when conditions are complex and time is critical.
